Kilvert's Allington Walk

Flying at Allington Walk

Starting at St Peter’s Church, walk along the B4069 passing the Pound and Old School House, before continuing along footpaths via Birds Marsh Wood to cross the A350 at the roundabout. Cross over to the M&S service station and, keeping right, walk down to the golf club. wend your way to CHIW12 just past the driving range along the fields to Allington – a walk frequently taken by Kilvert. From there you will make your way to Kington St Michael, with an option of a slightly longer loop past Grade II listed Priory Manor and then through a pretty wood. In this village, amongst the listed buildings, are the Lyte Almshouses and Church of St Michael and All Angels.

Passing back across the A350 you’ll arrive at Kington Langley, passing by the house where Ettie Meredith-Brown lived, Kilvert’s great love. Going on to Poets Gate, Kilvert’s favourite place to stand and gaze over the countryside he so loved, before returning to St Peter’s via Morrell Lane.

There are two opportunities to stop for refreshments – the Farm Shop at Allington or Kington Café at Kington St Michael, the latter being closed on Sundays and Mondays.

Note. As on all the Kilvert Walks, if you wish to read more on any of the Listed Buildings or Monuments, cross to the Gazetteer Page and click on the relevant tab.
